Mayor

The Mayor of Gretna has general and immediate control over all property, and officials, whether elected or appointed, of the city. He presides at all meetings of the City Council and may vote when the mayor's vote is needed to break a tie vote of the council. The mayor has the authority to call the Council into special meetings and is required to sign all ordinance, resolutions, and City Council minutes. The mayor may veto any ordinance, resolutions, or order adopted by the City Council.

Appointments

He may, with the consent of the City Council, appoint officers for the positions of city attorney, city auditor, city clerk / treasurer, city engineer, city fire chief, city street superintendent, city utilities superintendent, and city zoning administrator / building inspector. He also appoints liaisons and various board members as terms expire.

Biography

Mike Evans was elected as Mayor of the City of Gretna in 2020. Prior to his mayoral role, he served on the Gretna Planning Commission, where he helped guide the city's growth and development. In addition to his public service, Evans earned a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln which helped him become the President and Owner of True Horizon Real Estate, where he works as an investor and broker.

Mayor Evans is deeply committed to his community, having raised three children here along with his wife, Geni. He is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Gretna and serves as the current President of Gretna Legion Baseball. He is also actively involved in the Gretna Optimist Club, where he is a current member and former president. His dedication to sports and youth extends to his role as an official in the Nebraska Wrestling Coaches (NSWCA) Hall of Fame.

As Mayor, his top priorities include fiscal responsibility, enhancing the quality of life for residents, and promoting economic development within the community.
